by three points. and in wisconsin, the polling average has mr. obama ahead by more, by five points. then at 10:00 eastern time, polls will be closed in all of those states and we'll be closing polls in the 10:00 eastern time in that hour in the states that you see blinking right here. these four states. of those four states, iowa, montana, nevada, and utah, two of them are going to be watched really closely. those, of course, are iowa and nevada. the "real clear politics" polling average in iowa right now shows president obama ahead by two and in nevada president obama ahead by 2.7. then later in the night at 11:00 p.m. and then 1:00 a.m., we'll have california, hawaii, idaho, oregon, washington, and then the last poll closing in alaska. unless this is a very strange night, those races will be interesting for governors races and senate and house races and state issues, but not necessarily for the presidency. unless things go very, very differently than expected to go. this is how your election viewing is going to unfold hour by hour on tuesday night. if you just exclude the states

returned to the campaign trail today. with the election around the corner, mr. obama received a surprise endorsement. with the devastation of the megastorm consuming his attention, new york city mayor michael bloomberg surprised the political world today by endorsing president obama for re-election. in a statement, bloomberg said the hurricane's cost "in lost lives, lost homes and lost business brought the stakes of s presidential election into sharp relief."id he credited mr. obama with taking major steps treduce carbon consumption and noted not only president obama's position on climate change, but also on s woman's right to choose and marriage equality as evidence of a vision different from that of mitt romney. the news came as the president returned to the campaign trail, stopping first in green by, wisconn. he revived his own slogan of 2008 to question mitt romney's ideas. >> governor romney has been using a his talents as a salesman to dress up these very same poalcies that failed ourha country so badly, the very same policies we've been cleaning up after for the past four years. a

heard is the reference to the president's rhetoric on the trail yesterday. mr. obama was talking about g.o.p. policies on the trail and the crowd began to boo. and he said, don't boo, vote, voting is the best revenge. and romney, as you heard there a moment ago picked up on it saying, the president has now reduced his campaign to small things and attacks, whereas what romney argues notwithstanding his own attacks of president obama, is that he's offering hope and change. borrowed rhetoric from the 2008 obama campaign itself perhaps, but none of less, in that completion of his rhetoric about obama and revenge, he says, what he hopes people do is vote for their love of country. all about a positive close, notwithstanding again, the criticisms implicit and explicit throughout the stump speech in what is now 82 hours before the first polls close on the east coast tuesday night. we'll send it back to you in new york. >> brian: carl, i know you've got a sense of people on the ground that mccain wouldn't have a shot in ohio, wouldn't have pennsylvania, and a place like new hampshire, is there a

: as election day looms just ten days away. friday, a day after voting early himself, mr. obama hit the airwaves, giving a flurry of interviews, including mtv, where he courted younger voters. >> i believe in an america where we grow when everybody's got a shot. that's the america that allowed me to sit in this place and that's the america i want to recreate for the next generation. >> god bless iowa. >> reporter: meanwhile, governor mitt romney spent his day in two battlegrounds, iowa and ohio, rallying last night with paul ryan, who got a hollywood introduction from tv star patricia heaton. >> i have to tell you, backstage, i didn't recognize him his shirt on. >> reporter: in the waning days, the war of words is growing more intense. >> it's time to have a president and vice president who care more about the people than they care about politics. >> reporter: the president seemingly referring to his opponent as a bs-er to "rolling stone" magazine, questioning why republican colin powell endorsing obama. >> i applaud colin for standing with him. >> reporter: he later said he doesn't doubt powell

to where it was when mr. obama took office as president. in january of 2009, it was 7. %. there was a stimulus in february 2009. hundreds of billions of dollars spent into the economy, the unemployment rate kept rising to 10% before moving slowly lower now to 7.8%. again the forecast is for it to pick up in october to 7.9%. let's take a look at the job creation trends. that's the other part of this story. you can see when the president took office hundreds of thousands of jobs being lost every month. that was the financial crisis and the recession. then it has been slow, very slow incremental gains in jobs since then over the past couple of years. there has been job creation. month after month after month. but some months have not been even robust enough to absorb new entrants into the workforce. that's where it gets political you guys. the question is, has this been good enough, has the president made it better or worse, and could mitt romney do better? that's what everyone will decide on tuesday. >> that's what they'll be fighting about starting today at about 8:30 t

a version of chinese state-directed capitalism by the way of stimulus. mr. obama might squeak by. he has in addition to incumbency and a vestige of likability, a candidate who found his stride late in the campaign. but a second term will mean four years of spent ideas packaged in shopworn rhetoric to be shoved down the throat by a president who has nothing politically to lose. i'm not sure that's fair. would you agree with that? i don't think so. >> i would agree that the president's exhausted intellectually when it comes to what he plans to do for the next our years. i think there's a big question mark, though, also over what mitt romney would do over the next four years. only thing we know for sure is mitt romney's saying he's going to cut taxes and barack obama says he's going to raise taxes and neither one of these -- >> that's the argument in the messaging out on the campaign trail. but when you look at what this president has done -- >> no, no, no, no -- just stop. >> what? >> just stop. i'm talking about the future. you want to talk about the past. if i say the president's intelle

-storm opportunism. citizens in the northeast aren't turning on their tvs if they have electricity to hear mr. obama opine about subways letting. they're tuning in to hear governor chris christie talk about damage to the jersey shore, mayor bloomberg tell them when bus service might resume. and connecticut governor danell malloy to say when the state's highways might reopen. energetic governors and mayors are best equipped to handle disaster relief because they know their cities and neighborhoods far better than the feds ever will, and they know their citizens will hold them accountable. the feds can help with money and perhaps expertise. the larger liberal fallacy here is that effective government requires bigger government. actually, i think everybody needs everybody but, you know, whatever. >> i think what the world needs now is love, sweet love. so are they saying to the president's opportunistic here? >> making a jab at big government when actually this is the one time the government actually is needed. >> as we said, "the new york times" -- >> do you want to take a look and see if there's more
